Portaferry Sailing Club and the Old Gaffer's Association - mini-symposium presented by PAST:
30th June @ 11:00am
Christopher Kenny, "The Last Ulster Schooler: 125 years of the sailing ship Result". Once described as the 'finest small sailing ship ever built in these isles', Result is a unique survivor from the Victorian era. From cargo ship, film star and First World War U-boat hunter, to exhibit at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum Result has been through a lot. This talk will cover her illustrious past and the plans for her future.
Christopher Kenny is a maritime historian who is extensively researching the Result's past, and lobbying for her to be restored and made accessivle to the public. Through his volunteer work at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum he recently worked on an exhibition charting the Result's history.
1 July @ 11:00am
Donald Nelson, "The Last Voyage of the Fancy". Donald has had many seaborne adventures in the traditional craft. This talk deals with his boyages in a Galway Hooker, the beautiful, sailing work boat of Galway Bay. This is particularly apt in view of the plan to build replicas of these important boats to mark Galway's year as EUropean Capital of Culture, 2020.
